The passing of our founder

Apr. 13th

Donald Cameron Ross

Late afternoon on April 8th, 2016 Donald Cameron Ross passed away peacefully at his beloved Shibumi Knoll residence in St. Helena, California with his wife Joann Ross. Don was born on October 24th, 1941 the youngest child of Evelyn and Donald Cameron Ross. Don is survived by his sister Jacki Ross, who lives in Washington, and his two sons: Cary Ross and Jared ross, both living in California. Don has three grandchildren: Alexa Ross, Julia Ross, and Marley Ross.

After graduating from college, Don worked as an aerospace engineer on the Apollo Lunar Landing Project, eventually becoming the Project Engineer for Lunar Mission Planning on the Apollo missions. After the second lunar landing, Don bought a small aluminum extrusion distributorship, Hoskin & Muir, which grew to become Cardinal Shower Enclosures, Inc., the largest manufacturer of shower door enclosures in the country.

Don was an extraordinary man with a passionate love of life. His quick wit and brilliant mind led to a full life with countless friends and experiences. His passion for the intellectual pursuit of wine and winemaking made him an avid collector and vintner. He loved living in Napa Valley and producing Shibumi Knoll wines. A man of impeccable taste, character, and love, Don always had a big smile on his face and a sparkle in his eyes. Don was a caring and generous man, and a loving father, mentor, and husband. We will miss him but know he is at peace in Heaven.
