Christmastime can often be a time of stress, uncertainty and sadness to the disadvantaged in our communities. Several years ago, the employees and owners of HMI Cardinal decided to do something to change that by sponsoring children from The Home of the Innocents through their holiday Adopt a Child program.
This year marked their 3rd annual donation and was their largest one to date. Through the kindness and generosity of everyone involved, children who otherwise may have gone without, woke up Christmas morning with countless presents under their tree! Employees and owners donated toys, clothes, electronics, stocking stuffers and time to the program, in the hopes of making Christmas a bit brighter for the children living at the Home of the Innocents and boy, did they make it brighter!
Each year, HMI Cardinal’s employees have increased their giving, spreading Christmas cheer to more and more children. Knowing the smiles their donation gives to the children each year makes every bit of time and money put into the Adopt a Child program worth it. Their giving doesn’t just end at Christmas. Throughout the year, HMI Cardinal’s employees donate food and money to programs helping those in need. It’s just part of who they are as people and as a company.
From the Home of the Innocents website: “There are a number of ways donors can help the Home. Legacy gifts that will last long past your own lifetime; one-off donations and recurring monthly gifts; the cost of a night of care at the Home; all the way down to donations of goods and clothing that cover life’s practicalities. You can even order donations through Amazon.com and save yourself a journey to the Home.”
If you are able, please visit https://www.homeoftheinnocents.org/help-the-home/donate and consider donating to help bring joy to those in need.
Efficiency and Sustainability
The Cubit is a former factory building in downtown Holyoke, MA, that has undergone a major renovation. Holyoke Community College’s Hospitality and Culinary Arts Center will be the project’s anchor tenant and renovations to the upper floors will result in 18 Apartment Lofts.
This modern and energy efficient design maintains a historical look which is appropriate to the building's age and was accomplished using Cardinal Commercial Products CF451T thermally broken storefront system. Yankee Glass of Holyoke, MA, was the lead glazing contractor on this project and handled all fabrication and installation in-house. This included the integration of a projected window and grid system which helped maintain the proper look for the project.
When used in conjunction with our thermally broken storefront system, Yankee Glass helped to bring this older building into the modern age of efficiency and sustainability.

HMI Cardinal is proud to introduce a contemporary adaptation of a classic—our new Retro Seedy Glass. This glass combines the best of the looks of seeded and antique glass. Soft, undulating optical distortions seen in antique glass fused with tiny pinpoints of light and shadow reminiscent of traditional seeded glass results in a captivating piece of art. As the saying goes, everything old is new again and our Retro Seedy Glass is just that. Our Cardinal Seedy Series kiln formed restoration glass harkens back to sheet glass made before the turn of the century and the advent of the modern-day float glass process. This thermally formed sheet glass is made in a revolutionary method allowing it to be utilized where traditional antique glasses cannot as it is tempered and comes in 3 different thicknesses: 6 mil, 10 mil and 12 mil, giving you the look of the old with the safety features and flexibility of the new. The elegance of this new classic comes from subtle optic distortions created by a galaxy of tiny surface irregularities on one surface of the glass. Unlike other patterned and rolled glass, Cardinal Seedy Series glass does not obscure the view, instead altering it giving it a rich, warm, and distinctive caricature sure to enhance many situations where the ordinary simply will not suffice.
It’s time to experience this contemporary kiln formed classic in your next designer glass project. Whether you’re looking to add a wow factor to your bathroom, lobby or storefront, our Retro Seedy Glass is available in a variety of applications, sizes and colors. It’s the perfect solution when your project demands something different; something extraordinary.

Due to a shortage of the Krystal patterned glass (made from the super-clear low-iron glass), we've developed our own line of patterns. Our cast glass artist has developed a new technique for creating these low-relief patterns. Best of all, they can be made with any of our glass types, including our Starphire (optically-clear low-iron glass) in 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2" thickness, or any of our other glass colors.
Check out the pictures!
Cardinal Shower Enclosures is pleased to announce that our Cardinal Rain Heavy Glass has received the ADEX Platinum Award for Design Excellence, and our Cardinal Frost Heavy Glass has received the Gold Award for Design Excellence. In 2011 there was an industry shortage of low-iron patterned glass, Building on our cast glass technology, we have developed a series of new patterns of super-clear low-iron glass. With this new method of creating the patterns, we can not only provide the standard 3/8" super-clear low-iron glass, but can also provide these patterns in the previously unavailable 1/2" clear and low-iron glass, as well as in such colors as smoke, bronze, light blue and light green. The ADEX awards reinforce our position as industry leader and encourage us to keep innovating new and exciting products for the shower enclosure industry.
Shelton, CT, March 22, 2011 — ARCAT, a major publisher of building product information has developed and posted on their site, data rich AutoDesk® Revit® BIM objects for Cardinal Shower Enclosures. Anyone can use these objects at no charge.
In addition to creating accurate graphics, ARCAT and Cardinal have added appropriate product data to each object, saving architects and engineers a significant amount of time doing data entry and product research. All of Cardinal’s objects, graphics and content, are uniform and modifiable for ease of use. In addition to product information, ARCAT has embedded links in the objects to Cardinal’s CSI 3-Part specs.
